SUEZ LNG NA

SUEZ LNG NA (SLNGNA) is the business unit of SUEZ Energy North America responsible for managing the company's liquefied natural gas (LNG) activities in North America.

A leading importer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the U.S. today, SUEZ LNG NA has a proven history of innovation. More than three decades ago, the management of our subsidiary, Distrigas of Massachusetts LLC, saw the future in LNG, a fuel that many in the energy industry summarily dismissed at the time. Since receiving our first shipment in November 1971, we’ve been a driving force in the adoption of this safe, clean-burning fuel throughout parts of North America. In the 1970s, we employed LNG to mitigate New England’s regional energy crisis. In 2000, we introduced LNG to Puerto Rico. And today, as the demand for LNG as a clean fuel source increases, we are building on our reputation for developing innovative, flexible solutions that readily meet the energy needs of a growing and diverse customer base.

The company currently draws LNG from Trinidad, an ideal location in relative proximity to North American markets with proven reserves in excess of 20 trillion cubic feet.

Operations
SUEZ LNG NA’s subsidiary Distrigas of Massachusetts owns and operates the longest-operating LNG import facility in the U.S. The company’s terminal in Everett, Massachusetts plays a critical role in meeting New England’s energy needs. The Everett Terminal currently meets approximately 20 percent of New England’s annual natural gas demand. With connections into two interstate pipeline systems, as well as into a local distribution company’s system, the Everett Terminal serves nearly all of the gas utilities in the region and key power producers, including a neighboring 1,550-megawatt power plant able to generate enough electricity for approximately 1.5 million homes in Greater Boston.

In addition, because New England lacks underground natural gas storage, the Everett Terminal supplies LNG via truck to a network of 46 local, customer-owned LNG storage tanks around the region. In combination, the LNG from the Everett Terminal and these facilities is capable of meeting about 35 percent of the region’s gas demand on very cold winter days.

Outside of New England, SUEZ LNG NA today is also the primary supplier of LNG to Puerto Rico. Further, the company makes regular LNG deliveries to the LNG receiving terminal in Cove Point, Maryland, as well as spot deliveries (in conjunction with SUEZ Global LNG Ltd.) to the LNG facility in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Meanwhile, SUEZ LNG NA recently announced a plan to develop two deepwater port for LNG deliveries in federal waters off the coast of Massachusetts called Neptune (press release - pdf), and Florida called Calypso. You can watch a short video about this exciting project here (75MB MPEG Video).
