Health, Safety & Environment

At SUEZ Energy North America (SENA), health and safety at work and responsible stewardship of the environment are both key contributors to sustainable development and therefore central to our core values. Our mandate is simple, and clear: to limit any harm to people and the environment that might arise from our activities. In fact, we are committed not only to maintaining the natural world around us, but improving it where we can, for the benefit of our customers, our employees and the community as a whole. To achieve our goals, a necessary balance between ecological, economic, and social requirements must be maintained. These continuing efforts are codified in the SUEZ Health and Safety Charter and the SUEZ Environmental Charter.

The SUEZ Health & Safety Charter sets out a framework of requirements for continuous improvement to our performance in this area, beyond the strict application of laws and regulations. This code of conduct is distributed and explained to—and required of—all employees, from the executive level to staff representatives. Each division or company has a supervisor appointed to deal effectively with the application of this charter and its code of conduct.

SENA, like all SUEZ companies, is determined to contribute to the preservation the planet’s natural heritage and its great eco-systems. The SUEZ Environmental Charter (pdf, 181k) stipulates that every company respect the laws and regulations concerning the environment and public health. Moreover, SUEZ companies strive to go beyond the requirements of laws and regulations whenever technical and economic conditions enable them to do so. In this way, they seek to satisfy the needs of customers, the authorities, and the community. Respect for the environment is taken into account at all levels of company decision-making concerning general policy, projects, investments, actions and administration. As part of the employee training program and in accordance with the individual employee’s role, each employee receives training designed to increase awareness of environmental threats and of the need to implement best practices in each area of activity. Finally, SENA and its subsidiaries are committed to maintaining open dialogue with the general public, developing advisory and publishing services, and conducting training and awareness-raising activities in a spirit of transparency, partnership, and a willingness to listen.
